4 Days Padang-Maninjau-Bukittinggi

Itinerary

DAY 1:     ARRIVE PADANG. TRANSFER TO BUKITTINGGI (L,D)

Arrive Minangkabau International Airport; met by your tour guide and transfer to a local restaurant to have breakfast (optional).

And then, drive to Anai Valley Waterfall and from a roadside stop, see water plunging off the steep mountain slope into the basin below.
Cintinue to  Bukittinggi town for lunch at 900 metres above sea level. Afterwards, to a few well-known embroidery centres such as Pandai Sikat.

Check into your Bukittinggi hotel and rest of the day is at leisure.

Overnight at Bukittinggi.

DAY 2:    BUKITTINGGI-DANAU MANINJAU-BUKITTINGGI (B, L, D)

After breakfast, proceed to Danau Maninjau where the  downhill drive goes through 44 bends before reaching the ldanau/lake, 600 metres below the rim of an ancient caldera (large volcanic crater).  The lake is huge, 17km long by 8km wide, and surrounded by forest-covered crater walls, the scene is simply amazing. Here there will be time for leisure, shop at Annisa Embroidery and visit the Hamka Museum, home to one of Indonesia's famous nationalists.

Then, we drive back to Bukittinggi; enroute stop at the panoramic Sungai Landai foothills. Later, after finishing lunch in Bukittinggi, proceed to  a vantage point for the astounding Sianok Canyon (where steep cliff walls loom over the valley of villages and forest) and the Japanese Tunnel (an underground bunker dug out of the canyon during WWII). Back in town,  see the the iconic Clock Tower as you head to the shops of Pasar Atas Bukittinggi.

By late afternoon, return to your hotel and after dinner, you are free at leisure.

DAY 3:    BUKITTINGGI-PAGARUYUNG-PADANG (B,L,D)

Check out of the hotel and you will be taken to Padang where enroute you will stop at an emboridery centre and a mill for an introduction to Sumatran coffee.

Stop at Batu Sangkar for lunch, and afterwards visit Pagaruyung Palace, that was once the seat of the Minangkabau. Although the three storey palace is a reproduction of the original, it is still impressive with its unique bull-horn architecture that is unique to this region.  Then to Padang, to visit Muara Padang Beach, the old Harbour, Siti Nurbaya Bridge that links the city and its hilly suburbs, and the local market.

After dinner, check into your hotel, and the evening is at leisure

DAY 4:    DEPART PADANG (B)
Take an early breakfast ahead of the transfer for Padang airport.
