Itinerary

DAY 1:    LONDON-BATH
Take a fast train journey (90 mins) into the west of England to European Heritage city of Bath – a city dating back to Roman times and now a fine Georgian city full of 18th Century classic architecture, boutiques, and antique and craft shops. Join the afternoon small group guided tour through beautiful countryside to the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge to wonder at this prehistoric monument before returning via Lacock village which is unchanged since the early 1800’s. This popular film location features in Pride & Prejudice and the Harry Potter films.

DAY 2:    BATH-LIVERPOOL (B)
Enjoy a leisurely morning on the open top Hop On-Hop Off city tour bus, perhaps visiting original Roman Baths and the Fashion Museum in the Assembly rooms, or tempting yourself in the many boutique shops and cafes.

In the afternoon catch the train (3.5 hours) to the vibrant city Liverpool, home of the Beatles and mass departure point for so many emigrants seeking a new life and fortune in the New Worlds in the 18th and 19th centuries.

DAY 3:    LIVERPOOL-WINDERMERE [LAKE DISTRICT] (B)
Start the day at the award-winning Beatles Story Experience for an atmospheric journey into the life, times, culture and music of the Beatles then step aboard the colourful Magical Mystery Tour bus for a captivating tour taking you to places associated with John, Paul, George and Ringo as they grew up, met and formed the band that would take the pop world by storm.

Late afternoon take the scenic train ride (2 hOUrs) into the Lake District National Park to Windermere.

DAY 4:    WINDERMERE [LAKE DISTRICT] (B)
The Beatrix Potter's Lakeland & Wordsworth small group guided tour takes you to the many places associated with Beatrix Potter's life and characters: Hill Top, Hawkshead, Wray Castle, Tarn Hows, Newlands Valley, Derwentwater and Keswick. Also visiting William Wordsworth's earlier home; Dove Cottage, at Grasmere. Including 12 lakes, two high mountain passes, a lake cruise on Derwentwater and a visit to the prehistoric Castlerigg Stone Circle.

DAY 5:    WINDERMERE [LAKE DISTRICT]-EDINBURGH (B)
The day starts with a scenic train journey (2.5 hours) through the wild border country into Scotland and onto Edinburgh.

In the afternoon explore this beautiful city on the open top Hop On-Hop Off city tour bus.

DAY 6:    EDINBURGH-LOCH LOMOND-EDINBURGH (B)
Join a small group guided Western Highlands tour to capture the spirit of the and explore some of its most atmospheric Lochs and Castles. You travel past Stirling stopping at Doune Castle, medieval stronghold and set of Monty Python’s “Holy Grail”. From here you continue north into the stunning Scottish Highlands to visit Kilchurn Castle, magnificently situated at the head of Loch Awe and surrounded by towering mountains.

Then onto the whitewashed 18th century town of Inveraray, home to the Duke of Argyll’s castle, before continuing over the spectacular “Rest and be Thankful” pass to Loch Lomond, stopping at the conservation village of Luss, set on its “bonny, bonny banks” and then return to Edinburgh, stopping briefly below the impressive Stirling Castle.

DAY 7:    EDINBURGH-YORK-STRATFORD (B)
Head south into England by fast train (2 ½ hrs) along the spectacular east coast to the ancient walled Viking city of York for a brief visit and open top Hop On-Hop Off city tour bus.

Later in the afternoon catch the train (3.5 hours) to Stratford upon Avon.

Overnight at Stratford.

DAY 8:    STRATFORD (B)
Enjoy a leisurely morning on the open top Hop On-Hop Off city tour bus and perhaps explore Shakespeare’s birthplace and the historic Shakespeare family properties.

DAY 9:    STRATFORD-OXFORD-LONDON (B)
Take the train to London to finish your tour (2.25 hours).

If you prefer you can stop in Oxford and take an open top sightseeing tour to see Magdalen and Christ Church Colleges, Ashmolen Museum, Bodleian Library and other key sights of the city before catching the train to London.

Programme ends at London.
